Futurist Collective is a project I didn’t really know how to start. I guess I must have started at some point because this site exists. It is an evolving project that will likely continue to change. The goal is to create a place that I can share and feature art, stories, news, reviews, and conversations from both myself and other people I trust and respect. The future can be either grim or beautiful and some of that is up to us. Regardless who lied to you and told you otherwise, we’re all in this together.
I am living outside Portland, OR with my wife, working in the cannabis industry and playing mad indie games in my free time. I have a long history of religious and theological training which I was going to use for a career in pastoral and church leadership until I spent enough time in University settings to “learn my way out of religion”. Even at two religious schools, philosophy, logic, and libraries were tools I found to lead me out of personal faith. I eventually switched my major to Cultural Anthropology.
I now consider myself a Humanist and Optimistic Nihilist. My hope is that we can as a nation move towards a common culture that unites us against bigger issues like climate change rather than against each other. A future where all citizens feel they contribute to the greater good and get taken well care of because of it. A future where technology enhances our lives, not replaces it. And so many more beautiful futures my futurist friends are all dreaming… It’s our turn, let’s leave this place better than we found it. And that doesn’t just mean cleaner and safer, it means more playful, weird, beautiful, pleasurable, artful, expressive, and imaginative.
